Most of you will be aware that over the past few years we have been raising funds to enhance our facilities here at the YMCA. Obviously, the Covid-19 situation has delayed our plans but now that things seem to be settling down we hope to get the project back on track very soon. During the most recent lockdown we managed to get some of the internal works completed and now have a new storeroom as well as a staff room. The main part of the project will create a separate waiting area for parents with a viewing window and screens as well as a new entrance and office space. This will allow us to use the activity hall for dance, keep fit and other groups and classes. We will also be providing secure outdoor storage for bikes and buggies. As we are someway short of the full amount of funds required for this development we will shortly be recommencing our search for grants and other ways of raising money. In the meantime Lesley Dowsett is aiming to kickstart proceedings with a fundraising walk.
Lesley is our oldest gymnast and a trustee, she will be walking the coast to coast path from St Bees in Cumbia to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire a distance of 190 miles over 16 days raising funds for our Gymnastics Club and Macmillan Cancer Care – an average of 12 miles a day not including extra miles for getting lost.
Walking with her sister – between them they have 3 dodgy knees, 1 dodgy hip, 2 dodgy wrists, 1 dodgy ankle and a very dodgy sense of direction!
Any amount of sponsorship will be very gratefully received.

We have also pleased to receive £1000 from The Arnold Clark Community fund, after a succesful application.
